The School of Law offers a 4-year Bachelor of Laws programmes in Chinese with a choice of two majors. The first is a general law degree, whereas the second features a specialization in intellectual property law.


Our Majors:

Law

The law major focusses on law as a general subject, including study of the Chinese legal system, legal theory, legal practice and research. It aims to cultivate a systematic mastery of legal theory, legal thinking and logic, legal professional ethics, and a familiarity with China’s legal systems and norms, ensuring that they are well prepared to work in the private and public sectors. Graduates are expected to have a solid foundation in legal theory and comprehensive knowledge of the law, have developed a scientific legal thinking method and solid problem-solving ability, and have excellent professional ethics. Our graduates have gone on to work in various law firms, state agencies, private enterprises, institutions and social organizations.

Intellectual Property Law

With China’s innovation-driven development strategy, there is a growing need for expertise in intellectual property. This major focusses on the cultivation of young professionals with a broad focus on intellectual property, including theory and practice, management, and litigation. This major includes unique coursework in both theory and practice. This includes patent law, trademark law, copyright law, international intellectual property law, e-commerce law, intellectual property management, intellectual property agency, data law, frontier topics of intellectual property law, and intellectual property evaluation, among others. Professional practice courses include intellectual property law, copyright management practice, patent and trademarks, patent document retrievals, intellectual property management cases and practice, and intellectual property


Teaching Methods:

The School of Law promotes the integration of professional and general education, training students to pursue justice, innovation, and effective practice. Teaching methods in this program include traditional lectures, but also seminars, academic lectures from domestic and international experts, individual and group case analysis, and bilingual teaching, allowing students to develop both theoretical and practice legal skills. Students have many opportunities to practice their legal advocacy skills, including various moot court teams and participation in the legal aid clinic, and internships at law firms and private enterprise, among others. Students have access to high quality education resources, including our undergraduate tutor model, extra-curricular lectures by domestic and international experts and scholars, and high-end legal forms.


Employment Prospects:

Our graduates have a wide array of employment prospects after they graduate, whereas others decide to pursue further studies. Demand for legal professionals in China is increasing, and the School of Law has developed a comprehensive employment growth plan for graduates that provides guidance to enhance their job competitiveness. Graduates who go on directly to the work force will be able to take up positions in the court system or various government agencies and private enterprise. Those who decide to continue their studies can continue their education in postgraduate programmes in China and abroad.
