CQU Jessup Reaches Greater Heights, Advancing to International Rounds!
At the online Closing Ceremony of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court China Division on the 8 March 2022, the Jessup China Steering Committee announced the results of the 2022 National Competition. Chongqing University (CQU) won the first prize of the China Division, ranking third place in the Preliminary Rounds, fifth place for overall score, and successfully advancing to International Rounds where they will compete with top teams from all over the world later this March. Since 2019, CQU has won the first prize in the National Rounds for four consecutive years. What’s more gratifying is that all four oralists won the title of “Best Oralist”. This time, CQU bested its own National Rounds record from past years.
The twentieth Chinese Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (i.e. the sixty-third Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition National Rounds in China) was held online from March 4th to 8th. Referred to as the Olympics of International Law, Jessup is the largest and oldest moot court competition internationally, attracting over 600 universities and colleges worldwide. After six months’ training and preparation, CQU stood out among 56 universities nationwide and won the first prize in China, successfully advancing to International Rounds.
Besides the team awards, CQU oralists have showed their solid professional knowledge, deliberate thinking ability and high English proficiency, winning admiration from the Judges with their excellent performance. All four oralists earned the title of “Best Oralist”, a historic best result for CQU Jessup. Oralists Meiyun Zhang, Jianjun Qiu, Jingyi Liu, and Jiacheng Cao respectively won the third, fourth, ninth, twentieth place “Best Oralist”.
The Jessup Team of CQU is led by Associate Professor Qian Hou as coach and Lecturer Dr. David J. Devlaeminck as adviser and consists of undergraduate team members, including Meiyun Zhang, Jianjun Qiu, Jingyi Liu, Jiacheng Cao from grade 2018 and Ying Li in grade 2020.

During the preparation period, the strong support of the school, the careful guidance of coaches, the diligence and hard work of team members, and care from all walks of life have jointly contributed to the excellent results of CQU Jessup. With the National Rounds coming to an end, the schedule of International Rounds is about to start. The Jessup Team of CQU will continue to work hard, be modest and prudent, and seek success on the international stage.
