April 26-28, 2021, the 1992 Convention on the Protection and Use of Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes held their Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Working Group and a Joint Meeting of the Working Group on Monitoring and Assessment. The meeting had three main objectives – to review the implementation of the Convention Work Plan, discuss the global opening of the Convention, and discuss the draft of the next Work Plan.
At the meeting, attended by about 120 representatives from international organizations, national governments, academia and practitioners, Professor HU Desheng and YANG Yan, PhD Candidate, made comments. Professor Hu focused on ecosystem protection, conservation, or restoration in regards to the draft "Handbook on Water Allocation in the Transboundary Context". Ms. YANG, presented on Water-Food-Energy Nexus and its role in promoting cross-border river basin cooperation and the challenges faced in its application.
Professor HU’s team will propose amendments and improvements to the relevant documents submitted to the 9th Conference of the Parties to the Water Convention, providing Chinese perspectives on these issues for their progressive development.
