The School of Law offers a four-year doctoral program based on coursework and a doctoral dissertation. Our PhD programme aims to foster strong independent research skills, advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of a broad array of legal issues, and the ability to solve complex and interconnected legal issues. In order to do so, our programme provides advanced study through coursework and independent research, while also having multiple opportunities to engage in the various research activities of the School of Law. Our graduates have gone on to work in, for example, academia, various law firms, corporations and government ministries.
Basic Requirements
(1) strong interest in academic legal research, independent research ability and the interest to explore and innovate in regards to new and emerging legal topics;
(2) able to fully and deeply grasp the legal system and connections between various areas of law as well as law and other disciplines; have a strong familiarity with legal research methodologies and deep understanding of law as a discipline among the social sciences;
(3) able to acquire knowledge across disciplines, a strong theoretical foundation and knowledge base; able to conduct extensive independent research from domestic and international materials; be proficient in at least one foreign language, and be able to read and use foreign language materials and literature.
(4) able to analyze legal issues, propose and solve legal problems, and provide rigorous analysis and argumentation to prove their own views; have strong academic communication skills and be able to conduct academic exchange with their peers; through exchange, perfect their academic thinking and research results.

Our faculty are able to supervise students across a broad array of disciplines and research directions. These include: legal theory; constitutional and administrative law; legal history; criminal law; civil and commercial law; litigation law; economic law; environmental and resource protection law; intellectual property law; international law; ethics, politics and legal philosophy; and politics, economics and law.
